Young Chefs and Sommeliers Competitions

Nowhere is La Chaîne Canada’s commitment to the future of culinary excellence in this country more evident than in our support of young chefs and sommeliers as they progress on their journey.

Through our Canadian Foundation, we begin our support right at the beginning by providing scholarships to individuals enrolled in accredited culinary schools across Canada.

Once these young culinarians graduate, Chaine members and the Foundation also assist the process of improving their culinary skills and knowledge by hosting competitions at the local, regional and National levels. We then mentor and support the young chef and sommelier National competition winners as they represent Canada at the Concours International des Jeunes Commis (Young Chefs) Rôtisseurs and Jeunes Sommeliers held each year at different locations around the world. These competitions offer a unique opportunity for young Canadian chefs and sommeliers  to hone their skills in a challenging international atmosphere.

Canada has a rich history of success in these competitions - a History of Canadian Gold (click on this link to read about Canada's past successes).

In the end, both professional and non-professional members of la Chaine win!

About the Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition

The competition is open to young cooks under the age of 27. Contestants are chosen through selection competitions held in their respective local areas. Each is given four hours in which to compose a menu and prepare a three-course meal (an appetizer, a main course and a dessert) for four persons using ingredients presented in a “black box”. IContestants are judged on taste, originality, creativity, presentation, portion size, nutrition, dress, kitchen cleanliness and timing by a team of Canadian professional and nonprofessional judges.

About the Jeunes Sommeliers Competition

Open to young professionals who have a pronounced interest and knowledge of wine and crafted beverages between the ages of 21 and 30, competitors are chosen through selection competitions held in their respective countries. Each competitor is tested in three areas: theory, service and blind tasting.
